Isle Royale National Park Service - Superintendent’s Compendium
Dear Miss Green, or current Superintendent:
My wife and I truly loved visiting the wonderful Isle Royale in 2014.
However, I was distressed to see that the Isle Royale Line ferry allowed smokers in the stern of the boat to discard their cigarette butts into Lake Superior. The line had provided no receptacles for trash, to protect the aquatic life of the lake. The problem becomes clear when we consider the thousands of visitors by ferryboat.
I am about to send a letter on this matter to the company in Copper Harbor. I would feel supported if you as a National Park leader would take measures to pressure this ferry company to post receptacles and signs in the stern of their boats so travelers don’t trash the lake and the life in the lake.
Thank you!
